We're more than an insurance provider. We're a member-owned organization dedicated to protecting and empowering the future of energy, built on decades of trusted partnership.
Energy Insurance Mutual (EIM) began in 1985 when affordable insurance coverages were scarce. Representatives from 67 electric utilities met in Chicago to address the crisis. Those utilities recommend the formation of a mutual and EIM was born. The Company was incorporated under the Companies Act of Barbados in 1986 and received its license in Florida in 1988.
To provide members with a financially sound organization offering a secure, stable source of superior long-term insurance and risk financing products and services.
To be the premier provider of insurance and risk management services to utilities and the energy services industry.
Our mutual structure sets us apart. We're driven and goverened by our members, focused on their needs, and dedicated to their long-term success.
Unlike most commercial insurers, our focus is exclusively on energy. Our Board of Directors and Insurance Advisory Committee consist of energy industry leaders, ensuring deep understanding of your unique risks and challenges. This specialized knowledge translates into more relevant coverage, more collaborative claims resolution, and better risk management solutions for our members.
With $1.4 billion in policyholders' surplus, an A.M. Best 'A' rating, and a 97% member retention rate, we offer the stability energy companies need. Our mutual structure means we focus on long-term protection rather than quarterly profits, maintaining consistent coverage capacity even during hard markets.
As a mutual company, every member has a voice in our direction. Through our board of directors , IAC and member engagement, members actively shape our coverage offerings and risk management solutions. We also reinvest into expanding coverage options and strengthening our financial position rather than paying external shareholders.

EIM is known for exceptional claims service, underscored by a steadfast commitment to its members and profound industry expertise. This dedication to excellence ensures that members receive the best possible support during the crucial moments of the claim.
